IIT Delhi and University of Queensland Launch Joint PhD Program; Apply Till October 3
The University of Queensland and IIT Delhi have launched a joint PhD program to drive global impact. Upon completion, scholars will receive a Doctor of Philosophy degree jointly awarded by both UQ and IITD. Know details here
The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have partnered to offer a joint PhD program through the UQ-IIT Delhi Research Academy (UQIDAR) at IIT Delhi. The applications for the January 2025 admission are now open. Those meeting the eligibility requirements can fill up the form for PhD program at uqiitd.org/apply/.
UQIDAR is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from candidates with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, healthcare, humanities, or social sciences. The EOI submission for the UQ-IITD Joint PhD program is open until October 3, 2024.
Student Types To Apply for UQ-IITD Joint PhD Program
The UQ–IITD Research Academy offers two categories of students: i-students and q-students.
- i-students: Indian nationals and international applicants (excluding Australian citizens) are eligible for admission as i-students. They will spend their first, third, and fourth years at IIT Delhi, with their second year at the University of Queensland.
- q-students: Australian domestic students are eligible for admission as q-students. They will complete their first, third, and fourth years at the University of Queensland, and their second year at IIT Delhi.

Under the program, students will benefit from studying at both prestigious institutions. Upon successful completion, they will be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree jointly by both universities. UQIDAR provides its students with generous fellowships, research travel grants, and relocation support. Q: I am getting IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay for Chemical and IIT Gandhinagar for CSE. What should I opt for?
JEE Advanced cutoff 2024 has been released for Round 1. For IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay, the Round 1 cutoff for Chemical Engineering were 2207 and 2507, respectively for the General AI category candidates. For IIT Gandhinagar, the Round 1 cutoff for CSE was 1576. So, to answer your question, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are always a good options as compared to IIT Gandhinagar based on thier NIRF ranking. For Chemical Engineering, both IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are highly recommended as they have excellent faculty, research opportunities, and strong alumni networks. Also, Chemical Engineering offers you an opportunity to work in PSU, whereas CSE students don’t have that opportunity. On the otherhand, a CSE student have an opportunity to work in MNC’s with higher salary package even more than what PSU’s give. But since, IIT Gandhinagar has been ranked 18th in the NIRF Ranking 2023, you must consider its other aspects such as placement, ROI etc to take your decision.
