IIT Delhi students protest hike in mess fees
According to students, the average mess fee has been raised to around INR 7,000 per month, which is more than most of the IITs.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi students have voiced concern over the rising mess fees in the institute. IIT Delhi students took to Twitter to highlight the issue. They tweeted, “Continuous rise in mess fee of IIT Delhi has created distress among the students. According to students the average mess fee has been raised to around 7K per month and which is more than most of the IITs.”
They further wrote, “Few students have said that the main reason is the mess staff salary component and the removal of subsidy from the salary components. Here, students are continuously suffering with the rise of mess fees and left with no other option to leave the Hostel. @iitdelhi @AppscIITb.” “Do Board of Hotel Management (BHM) have any alternative for it or the fee will keep increasing exponentially,” they questioned.
"BHM has around 45 permanent staff members with a handsome salary and some of the retired members also are provided with pension. The complete salary is now paid by the students," IIT Delhi students claimed.
