IIT Gandhinagar announces B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence from 2023-24 Academic Year
The institute will also start BTech-MTech Dual Degree in Mechanical Engineering and host online JEE Open House tomorrow (21st June) for IIT Aspirants
Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) is starting a new B.Tech program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the Academic Year 2023-24. It is envisioned that this program will serve as a foundation for graduates to address the important challenges facing humanity.
The institute will also start BTech-MTech Dual Degree in Mechanical Engineering. With this, the Institute has added about 80 new seats in the undergraduate programmes at IITGN.
IIT Gandhinagar will conduct a virtual JEE Open House 2023 (https://iitgn.ac.in/openhouse/) on Wednesday (21st June 2023) for IIT aspirants who have cleared JEE (Advanced) 2023. The Open House will include sessions with the Director, Deans of Academic and Student Affairs, Heads of Counseling and Career Development Services.
It would be a great opportunity for prospective students and their family to interact with the faculty, students, and alumni of IIT Gandhinagar virtually. Students will be able to learn about the ethos of IIT Gandhinagar, vision and structure of its innovative academic programs including double major and dual degree programmes, liberal policy for branch or programme change, scholarships and financial support.
Further, the session would also focus on opportunities for undergraduate research, international internship, on-campus employment, future career development and entrepreneurship, vibrant student life on campus with several extra-curricular initiatives like new state-of-the–art sports infrastructure and arts activities. The prospective students will be in a position to make an informed choice in selecting their branches and institution after attending this session.
Elaborating further about the curriculum, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, said, “The Institute is rapidly expanding its intellectual capital, research and educational facilities and physical infrastructure. The undergraduate curriculum was revised this year to adapt to rapidly-evolving technology. With the introduction of BTech in AI, we will enable students to build systems that harness data collection and computation to solve important global challenges. Apart from statistical and computational techniques, this program emphasizes responsible use of AI and developing interdisciplinary domain knowledge. The Institute has also recently inaugurated ‘Gordhanbhai B Gelot Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science’ to foster a diverse and collaborative ecosystem in the fields of data sciences, machine learning, artificial intelligence and applied mathematics”
The placement season for 2023 was successful with a 16 per cent increase in the total number of recruiters compared with the preceding year and a 26 per cent increase in the average package offered. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of students, as well as the strong reputation of the institute.
Elaborating further, Prof Nithin George, Dean of Academic Affairs, IIT Gandhinagar, said, “The institute promotes critical thinking and an appreciation of the interdisciplinary character of knowledge. It emphasizes breadth and depth in the curriculum with a high value placed on interdisciplinarity and flexibility, which helps in the all-around development of students. The unique foundation program helps students develop their creativity, teamwork, communication skills and sensitizes them to ethical and social issues and serves as a bridge between the rigours of JEE preparation and their academic journey at IIT Gandhinagar.”
