Admission to the BTech in space science and engineering programme will be done on the basis of JEE Advanced score. The programme will commence in July this year.  

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has introduced a new BTech programme in space science and engineering. Admission to the programme will be done on the basis of JEE Advanced score. 

The programme will commence in July this year. “We are happy to announce the beginning of a new and unique BTech programme at @IITIOfficial -- BTech in Space Science and Engineering, from July 2023. We are starting with 20 seats and admission is through IIT JEE,” IIT Indore tweeted.  

The Department of Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Engineering (DAASE), IIT Indore, will offer the programme. DAASE said this will be a unique interdisciplinary BTech programme which envisions imparting state-of-the-art knowledge in the domain and developing skilled human resources to meet the demand of space and allied sectors. 

Students of this programme will be able to specialise in space instrumentation - detectors and payloads, imaging and data analytics, remote sensing and atmospheric engineering or astronomy and astrophysics, it added. 

A statement issued by the institute read, "The newly introduced course is aimed at imparting “state of art knowledge” in the domain. Additionally, it aims to develop skilled human resources to cater to the demand of ever-growing space and allied sectors of India and the rest of the world."

It further read, "Through the programme, the students will be able to make their way to cutting-edge research and tech development in the sectors of payloads, small satellites and detector design, data analytics, imaging and high-end numerical simulations."
