The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur has invited students with a research bent of mind to apply for admission to the PhD program. The program offers a joint PhD with SUNY- Buffalo University (UB). The last date to apply is April 20, 2023.

Research opportunities include industry-sponsored projects, projects with government agencies on real-world problems, close collaborations with iHub Drishti – a Technology Innovation Hub focused on ‘Computer Vision, AR & VR’ and many more.

As a part of the program, PhD students’ research and dissertation will be jointly directed by two faculty advisors, one at each institution. Students will have the opportunity to spend time at each institution. The PhD program at the Department of CSE at IIT Jodhpur is postgraduate-research-oriented. A PhD student works in an area of his/her interest under the supervision of a faculty member(s) and also has the flexibility to have an industry expert as co-supervisor.

The student has to complete the PhD qualifier requirements, which involve a minimum number of credits by taking courses, a comprehensive exam, state-of-the-art seminar, and research proposal defense. The doctoral program’s salient feature is the independent research work taken by scholars, leading to a thesis at the end of the program. The average duration of a PhD program is between four to five years.

  • JPD selection procedures will be initiated within 6-12 months of the student enrolling in the PhD program. Students selected into the joint PhD program shall be enrolled on a full-time basis at both Institutions.
  • Before the student matriculates to UB - as a part of the residency requirement the student must fulfill UB’s minimum academic admission conditions
  • UB’s required minimum score in English for language proficiency requirements (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, CPE, CAE or DET)
  • GATE (or equivalent as specified by MoE, Govt. of India) from India is mandatory.
