IIT Kanpur celebrates 64 years of Excellence; 22 recipients felicitated

22 recipients were felicitated across categories - Institute Fellows, Distinguished Alumnus Awards, Distinguished Service Awards, Young Alumnus Awards, and Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) celebrated its 64th foundation day on November 2. A total of 22 recipients were conferred awards on the occasion, out of which 12 alumni received the Distinguished Alumnus award. Abhay Karandikar, secretary, Department of science and Technology and former director of IIT Kanpur was the chief guest of the event. The institute organised a two-day events to celebrate the 64th foundation day. The event began on November 1 with the 'Antarang,' a cultural show put on by IIT Kanpur students, and exhibition by Appreciation and Promotion of Art, Culture and Heritage (APPROACH Cell). The event culminated with the Kathak recital by Rajendra Gangani, recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

On day 2 of the IIT Kanpur foundation day celebration, S Ganesh, the officiating director gave the welcome speech highlighting the achievements of the institute and talked about the eMasters degree programme in renewable energy and e-mobility that the institution has recently launched.

He further talked about initiatives in the field of research and academia, including the establishment of The Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine, plan for a School of Sustainability, and the recent collaboration with the Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute.

Speaking on the occasion, Abhay Karandikar said: “This day instills immense pride and brings back fond memories as we reflect on the institute’s journey in the fields of education, science, and technology. It has been a journey of continuous development, learning, and unwavering commitment to the highest values and mission. IIT Kanpur, through collaboration, scholarships, and global recognition, has carved a significant place in the landscape of innovation. I’m delighted to be part of this occasion and I congratulate all the awardees.”
