IIT Kanpur to Admit BTech-BS Students Through Olympiad Scores; Check Eligibility
IIT Kanpur to offer admission to BTech and BS programs in Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics through Olympiad scores. Check eligibility here
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has introduced a new admissions pathway for its BTech and BS programs. Based on performance in international Olympiads, the students will be given admission to IIT Kanpur's BTech and BS programs. Beginning in the academic year 2025-26, this initiative aims to attract students who have shown outstanding performance in global Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics.
Through this program, IIT Kanpur will reserve seats across five departments: Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Chemistry, Economic Sciences, and Mathematics & Statistics. Admission via this way offers select seats in each department for those who have undergone training in Olympiad camps, providing them with a direct route to IIT Kanpur without requiring JEE Advanced.
What are the eligibility requirements for BTech-BS Students Through Olympiad Scores?
To be eligible, the candidate’s age should align with the age requirement for JEE (Advanced) applicants for the corresponding admission year. Also, they must have completed their class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time either in the admission year or the year prior, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
The candidate must have achieved first-class marks in the qualifying exam. Those who were admitted to any IIT through JoSAA in the previous year are ineligible, regardless of whether they continued in the program, accepted a seat online, or reported in person.
Also, those whose admission to any IIT was previously cancelled for any reason are not eligible for admission through the Olympiad route. The candidate must have participated in the International Olympiad Training Camp for the discipline specified by the relevant department.
Admission Schedule For BTech-BS Through Olympiad Scores
Participating departments will announce the Olympiad-based admissions call in the first week of March for admissions taking place in July. The application window will close in the fourth week of March. Further, the departments will review applications by the third week of April and conduct the written test by the first week of May.
The selection process, including the evaluation of the written test and any interviews, will be completed by the third week of May. The departments will submit their recommended candidate lists to the Institute’s selection committee by the fourth week of May.
