IIT Kanpur to Conduct JEE Advanced 2025; Syllabus Released with No Changes

IIT Kanpur has launched the website of JEE Advanced 2025 and has released the JEE Advanced 2025 syllabus. With that IIT Kanpur has also notified that there are no changes in the syllabus from previous years. Candidates can find the syllabus details in a PDF format on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. JEE Advanced 2025 comprises two papers, each containing questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Both papers are mandatory and last for three hours. These papers evaluate candidates' comprehension, reasoning, and analytical ability.

JEE Advanced 2025 Official Website and New Eligibility

On November 5, IIT Kanpur launched the official website for JEE Advanced 2025 and unveiled the updated eligibility criteria, which includes a significant change. The number of attempts for JEE Advanced has been increased from two to three. As per the new guidelines, candidates will now be allowed to attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of three times within three consecutive years. Previously, the number of attempts was restricted to two within two consecutive years.

Other eligibility criteria remain the same - Candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in B.E./B.Tech. paper (Paper I) of JEE (Main) 2025. The percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are as follows: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these five categories, a 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates.

Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years of age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.

A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2023 or 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Q:   Are the JEE Mains and JEE Advance syllabi the same?

A:
No, not exactly the same. Topics in Mathematics such as Sets Relations and Functions Mathematical Induction, Binomial Theorem and its Applications, Sequences and Series, Mathematical Reasoning, Statistics and Probability are there in the syllabus for Mains but not in the syllabus for Advanced. Topics like Differential Equations and Probability are exclusively there only for the JEE Advanced. Physics Topics such as Oscillations and Waves Electromagnetic Waves Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Electronic Devices, Communication Systems, and Experimental Skills are exclusive to JEE Mains and not JEE Advanced. Topics like Mechanics are exclusive to JEE Advanced but not JEE Mains. Similarly, The syllabus is quite different for Chemistry for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Many topics in Mains are not needed for Advanced.

Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced Chemistry syllabus: General topics, Gaseous and liquid states, Atomic structure and chemical bonding, Energetics, Chemical Equilibrium Electrochemistry, Chemical kinetics, Solid state, Solutions, Surface Chemistry Nuclear Chemistry Isolation/preparation and properties of the following non-metals, Preparation, and properties of the following compounds, Transition elements (3d series), Preparation and properties of the following compounds, Ores and minerals, Extractive metallurgy, Principles of qualitative analysis, Concepts, Preparation, properties and reactions of alkanes, Preparation, properties, and reactions of alkenes and alkynes, Reactions of benzene, Phenols, Characteristic reactions of the following (including those mentioned above), Carbohydrates, Amino acids and peptides, Properties and uses of some important polymers, Practical Organic Chemistry.

Q:   Who Sets the syllabus for JEE Advanced?

A:

JEE Advanced syllabus is set by the examination authority under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The syllabus of JEE Advanced was revised in 2023. JEE Advanced syllabus includes 3 subjects - Physics, Chemistry and Maths. There are 2 papers in the exam, both have questions from PCM. Each paper is of three hours duration. Appearing for both papers is compulsory. The question papers will consist of questions designed to test the comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.

A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT under any academic program that is listed in JoSAA Business Rules of 2024 or earlier, irrespective of whether or not the candidate continued in the program OR accepted an IIT seat by reporting “online” / at a “reporting centre” in the past. Candidates whose admission to IITs was cancelled (for whatever reason) after joining any IIT are also NOT eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025. Candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2024 can appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025.
