IIT Mandi Hosts Mind, Brain, and Consciousness Conference (MBCC) 2023 at IKSMHA Centre

The Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Applications (IKSMHA) Centre at IIT Mandi inaugurated the 'Mind, Brain, and Consciousness Conference (MBCC) 2023. This event is geared towards igniting dynamic conversations among scientists and philosophers, focusing on consciousness. Additionally, it delves into the exploration of diverse interventions rooted in Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) for the enhancement of cognitive wellness and mental health.

The focus of MBCC 2023 is to spotlight interventions rooted in ancient texts like yoga sutras, Sankhya, Ayurveda, and other traditional sources. These interventions, which include yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, and Indian performing arts, are positioned as prospective tools for unlocking the enigmas surrounding consciousness.

This innovative three-day conference drew in scholars spanning various disciplines, encompassing neuroscientists, psychologists, AI and robotics experts, physicists, mathematicians, biologists, computer scientists, and esteemed practitioners of traditional Indian Knowledge Systems.

This engaging session was in sync with the conference's overarching themes, aiming to delve into varied perspectives on consciousness, particularly those rooted in Indian Knowledge Systems. It prompted participants to ponder the intricate connections between perception, consciousness, and profound philosophical concepts entrenched in Indian traditions.

The opening ceremony of MBCC 2023 was graced by the esteemed presence of Hon'ble Member of Rajya Sabha and Padma Vibhushan recipient, Dr. Sonal Mansingh, who presided as the Chief Guest. Among the notable attendees were Dr. BVRC Purushottam, IAS, Secretary-Rural Development, Uttarakhand; Prof. Stuart Hameroff from the University of Arizona, USA; Dr. Antonietta Rozzi from the University of Bologna, Italy; Dr. Anirban Bandopadhyay from NIMS, Japan; Prof. K Ramasubramanian from IIT Bombay; and Sh. Chitravina Ravikiran, a distinguished recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award, alongside other esteemed dignitaries.
