It's a Wrap for JEE Main 2024 BE/BTech Exam: 2.5 Lakh Candidates Across Categories to Qualify for JEE Advanced
The final BE/BTech paper of JEE Main 2024 was conducted today in two shifts, marking the end of the April session eams. Now the next step is JEE Advanced 2024 for the top 2.5 lakh candidates who want to be admitted to the IITs. The remaining candidates have to participate in JoSAA counselling for NIT, IIIT, and CFTI admissions next. For more technical information, please refer to the details below.
The last day of JEE Main 2024 April session for BE/BTech (Paper 1) has now ended. Based on the feedback provided by the students who appeared in the JEE Main 2024 April 9 Shift 1, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. However, Mathematics was relatively lengthier and tougher in comparison to Physics and Chemistry. The questions asked in the Physics and Chemistry sections of the JEE Main 9 April Shift 1 were predominantly from the 11th standard syllabus. On the other hand, in Shift 2, the difficulty level of Maths was higher, while the Physics and Chemistry sections were of moderate difficulty.
The JEE Advanced exam is the next stage for candidates who are among the top 2.5 lakh candidates of JEE Main 2024 paper 1 and who wish to be admitted to the IITs. The JEE Main results of the candidates will be prepared based on their scores in both the April 2024 session and the January 2024 session, and the best scores of the candidates out of both sessions will be used to determine their all India rank. Candidates who are among the top 2.5 lakh candidates in the JEE Main common rank list will be eligible to register for JEE Advanced 2024 by providing their JEE Main 2024 exam details.
The selection process will be based on the category of the candidate. 1,01,250 candidates will be selected from the open category; 25,000 will be elected from the EWS category; 67,500 from the OBC category; 37,500 from the SC category and 18,750 from the ST category. In all, 2.5 lakh candidates will be selected.

NTA will Declare Qualification Status for JEE Advanced 2024 with JEE Mains Result
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the JEE Main 2024 cutoff and qualification status for JEE Advanced 2024 along with the JEE Main 2024 results. Candidates who have an overall JEE Main 2024 percentile above the JEE Main 2024 cutoff marks announced will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2024 registration starting from April 21.
As per current expectations, the JEE Main 2024 cutoff for JEE Advanced is anticipated to be: General - 91+, EWS - 76+, OBC - 74+, SC - 55+, ST - 40+ and PwD - 0.11+. Last year's JEE Mains cutoff percentile for JEE Advanced was: General - 90.7788642, EWS - 75.6229025, OBC - 73.6114227, SC - 51.9776027, ST - 37.2348772 and PwD - 0.0013527.

NTA will announce the JEE Main 2024 results before April 21, which is when the registrations for JEE Advanced will start.
This year, a record-breaking 12.57 lakh candidates registered for JEE Mains session 2. In session 1, the number of candidates who registered for JEE Mains was 12,31,874. This is a substantial increase from last year, where 8,60,064 candidates registered for the January session and 9,31,334 in the April session.
JoSAA Counselling for IIT and NIT Admission
The seat distribution process for candidates seeking admission to IITs is conducted through a centralised counselling system known as JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). Eligible candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced can participate in JoSAA to secure their admission. Similarly, candidates aspiring to secure seats in NITs, IIITs or CFTIs have to register for JoSAA counselling immediately after appearing for JEE Mains 2024. JoSAA registration process 2024 will begin tentatively on June 10, 2024.
In the previous year, JEE Advanced witnessed registration of 1.95 lakh candidates, of which 1,80,372 appeared for the exam. The number of candidates who qualified for IIT admission was 43,773. The IITs offered a total of 17,385 seats to the qualified candidates.
