IIT Kanpur has released the IIT admission criteria 2025. A minimum of 75% marks in class 12 boards is mandatory for admission to the IIT via JEE Advanced 2025. Know more details below.

IIT Kanpur the conducting body of JEE Advanced 2025 exam has released the IIT admission criteria. For IIT admission via JEE Advanced 2025 in the academic session 2025-26, a minimum of  75% marks in class 12 is mandatory. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates should be at least 65%.

Several state education boards and the CBSE have published the timetable for the Class 12 board exams. If students want to take the JEE Advanced exam in 2025, they don’t need to achieve a specific score in their Class 12 exams. However, when they apply to JoSAA counselling for IIT seat allotment, they will need to have at least 75% in their Class 12 results. Additionally, students must meet the cutoff score for the JEE Mains exam in 2025, which will be released along with the results for the second session of JEE Mains. The first session of the JEE Main exam will take place from January 22 to January 31, 2025, and the second session is scheduled for April 1 to April 8, 2025.

IIT Admission Criteria via JEE Advanced 2025

The IIT admission criteria via JEE Advanced 2025 has been updated on the official JEE Advanced 2025 website - jeeadv.ac.in. As per it, the candidates must satisfy at least one of the following two criteria with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects in the year of first appearance in Class 12:

  • Must have passed class XII (or equivalent) Board examination with a minimum of five subjects (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, a language and any subject other than the previous four) and secured at least 75% aggregate marks. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates should be at least 65%.
    Or
  • Must have passed the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination with a minimum of five subjects  (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, a language and any subject other than the previous four) and be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.

JEE Advanced 2025 will be held on May 18. The application form to apply for the exam will be out on  April 23 and will be available till May 2. The JEE Advanced 2025 exam will be held across 224 exam centres which includes two centres abroad. The result of the exam will be announced on June 2.

Candidates who will qualify JEE Advanced 2025, have to participate in JoSAA counselling. The registration for JoSAA is expected to start a day after the JEE Advanced result is announced which is on June 3. The seats via JoSAA counselling will be allotted based on the JEE Advanced 2025 ranks of the candidates, their category and their choices of courses and IITs.

Q:   Who is eligible for JEE Advanced 2025?

A:

To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates must be:

  • Among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE (Main) 2025.
  • Born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.
  • A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) maximum of three times in two consecutive years.
  • A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2023, 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT irrespective of whether or not the candidate continued in the programme or accepted an IIT seat by reporting “online” / at a “reporting centre” in the past.

Q:   How many attempts are there for JEE Advanced?

A:

A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced two times in two consecutive years. The candidates who will be appearing for JEE Advanced 2025 for the first time, can also appear for JEE Advanced 2026. Similary, candidates who have attempted JEE Advanced in 2024 for the first time can attempt JEE Advanced 2025. However, the candidates who have attempted JEE Advanced 2023 cannot attempt JEE Advanced 2025, as only two consecitive attempts are allowed in the exam.

Q:   What minimum marks are required in JEE Mains to be eligible for JEE Advanced?

A:

The minimum marks required in JEE Mains to qualify for JEE Advanced 2025 will be announced with the JEE main 2025 final result after session 2 exams. Last year's minimum marks in JEE Mains to qualify for JEE Advanced were:

Candidates aiming for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) need to meet these cutoff marks in JEE Mains to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2025.
