JEE Main aspirant hangs himself to death in Kota
Police said the 17-year-old boy was a year dropper in JEE Main and had not been attending coaching classes for around a month.
A 17-year-old JEE Main aspirant has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to a ceiling fan in his hostel room in Kota, Rajasthan, the police said. The boy was a year dropper in JEE Main and had not been attending coaching classes for around a month, The Week reported.
Sub Inspector Awadhesh Singh said on Sunday evening when the boy did not open the door of his room, the caretaker of the hostel informed the police. The police reached the spot and broke open the door only to find out the boy hanging to the ceiling fan, he said.
The boy passed Class 12 and had made a failed attempt for JEE Main and later in July last year he enrolled himself in a coaching institute in Kota. He said the reason for the extreme step by the student is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from his room. "The body has been kept in the mortuary of New Medical College Hospital for postmortem which will be conducted after arrival of his family members," he said.
Kota, which is the hub of coaching centres preparing students for engineering and medical entrance examinations in 2022 saw the death of at least 15 students by suicide. In December 2022, three students preparing for competitive exams in Kota, Rajasthan, allegedly committed suicide. The deceased were identified as Ankush, Ujjwal and Pranav. One of the students was preparing for an engineering college, while the other two were studying for medical college entrance tests, including National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). No suicide notes have been found yet.
Two of the victims were residents of Bihar and had been living in Kota for the past three years. Both were found hanging from their ceiling fans in their rooms. The third victim was a resident of Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, who allegedly consumed some poisonous substance and died during treatment at hospital. was found lying unconscious in the gallery of his hostel.
