JEE Main Eligibility Plea: JEE matter has been listed at item no 52 on 24th April at Mumbai HC. JEE Main 2023 aspirants are pleading for 75 per cent and top 20 percentile criteria to be removed or lowered to 50 per cent in this year's entrance exam.

The Bombay High Court is scheduled to hear the petition for the removal of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 75 per cent eligibility criterion tomorrow i(April 24, 2023). The petitioner has requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to remove the 75% eligibility criterion for the JEE Main Session 2.

On April 13, advocate-activist and petitioner in the case Anubha Sahai appearing on behalf of the Government mentioned before the Bombay High Court Chief Justice that they will be filing an affidavit related to the JEE Main 75 percent criteria and need more time for the same. The Bombay high court had then fixed the next date of hearing to April 24.

Anubha Sahai tweeted, β€œ#JEE matter listed at item no 52 on 24th April at Mumbai HC.” As per the public interest litigation (PIL), JEE Main aspirants have asked for 75 per cent and top 20 percentile criteria to be removed or lowered to 50 per cent in this year's entrance exam. The PIL stated, β€œThe marks scored by them is not a true reflection of their actual ability therefore those students with less marks than the eligibility criteria (75%) for this year’s examinations can score very high marks in the upcoming JEE Main 2023, and if a fair chance is denied to them that will affect the future (of) lakhs of bright (students).”

The Bench of Acting CJ SV Gangapurwala and J. Sandeep V. Marne has now asked the NTA to file some additional documents. β€œFile an affidavit to this and the intervention application,” the Bombay High Court told NTA, according to LiveLaw! According to the JEE Main 2023 information brochure released by the National Testing Agency (NTA), apart from the All-India rank of the candidate in the national entrance test for engineering admissions, the aspirants are required to score 75 per cent and above in Class 12 or figured among the top 20 percentile candidates of the respective board in order to become eligible for admission. For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, the qualifying aggregate score was declared 65 per cent and above.
