KEAM 2024 Will Be Held as CBT, Confirms Education Minister R. Bindu

R. Bindu, Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, Government of Kerala has confirmed that KEAM 2024 will be held as a computer-based test. Until last year, Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) was being held in traditional pen-and-paper mode. She further stated that CBT aids in the timely and efficient administration of exams. Kerala cabinet is said to have approved an order issued by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) calling for a set of changes in conducting the KEAM exam.

Now that KEAM will be held in computer-based test format, candidates must be prepared to take the exam on systems provided at the exam centres.

KEAM was conducted in offline mode until 2023. The exam used the traditional pen and paper mode where candidates recorded their answers to multiple-choice questions in an Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet. The exam consisted of two papers, with paper 1 covering physics and chemistry, and paper 2 covering mathematics. Each question in the exam was MCQ-based, with five options provided and only one being correct. Correct answers were awarded four marks, and wrong answers carried a negative mark of one mark.

Some changes can be expected with the KEAM computer-based test. The exam might be conducted in phases, as it would not be possible to arrange over 1.2 lakh computer terminals at the same time. There will be an official mock test link on the website of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations two weeks before the actual exam date. The post-examination process will take less time like answer key release and result declaration. At present, over three to four weeks are required to scan the OMR sheets. Once the exam becomes computer-based, evaluation becomes faster with the scores being made available to the candidates in the shortest time.

However, candidates and parents are requested to wait for any official notification regarding the KEAM exam. Official KEAM notification can be expected in February.  It is expected that the KEAM 2024 application form will be available in March and the exam will be held in May 2024.

The KEAM exam has been consistently attracting a significant number of aspiring students every year. In the year 2023, the exam was taken by more than 1.23 lakh candidates, which marks a slight increase from the previous year's participation of 1.22 lakh. This indicates a consistent rise of interest among students in pursuing higher education in engineering, architecture, and medicine through the KEAM pathway.
