National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi (NIT-T) is all set to commence offline classes for first-year students during the second week of June. NIT-T commenced online classes for the first-year students during the month of November-December. The institute completed the first semester in March and commenced the even semester on April 4.

Talking about the conduct of academic sessions in offline mode, N Kumaresan, Dean - Students Welfare, informed that these students will write the second-semester exam in the offline mode and undergo workshop practice in the campus.

In order to bridge the academic gap, the second-year classes for these students will commence without the need for a break.

"Though there is less cause for apprehension, we have taken precautions to be in a state of readiness to handle situations that might arise in case COVID cluster arises," Professor Kumaresan said.

The institute is planning to commence offline classes for the first-year students as, by the time of their check-in, the senior students will be moving out after completing their Even Semester exams in the offline mode. Students currently in their second year were called in for the offline classes only during their third semester.

Taking advantage of the COVID-19 lockdown period, the institute strengthened its building infrastructure for hostels. An additional block for girls was opened in November last year, and construction of an additional block for boys has been fast-paced, Professor Kumaresan said.

The institute has built hostels with two-seater accommodation for undergraduate students. Single seater rooms are usually preferred by PG and PhD students. The institution has increased the hostel capacity to accommodate a little more than 7,000 students.
