Engineering students can download books in Marathi from the e-Kumbh portal for free of cost.

The All India Technical Education Council (AICTE) has uploaded engineering books in Marathi on the e-Kumbh portal, The Times of India reported. Engineering students can download books in Marathi from the e-Kumbh portal for free of cost. The books have been prepared giving priority to education in the mother tongue as per the National Education Policy (NEP) that emphasises on learning in the mother tongue to enhance creativity and critical thinking.

The AICTE had launched books written in Marathi language for diploma and undergraduate engineering courses in November last year. Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar and Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Maharashtra, Chandrakant Patil, launched the books at Mumbai University.  Sarkar said the initiative is in line with the AICTE’s philosophy of imparting technical education in Indian languages by introducing books in 12 local languages — Hindi, Marathi, Telegu, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Urdu, Malayalam and Assamese.

The e-Kumbh site has separate links for engineering and diploma students in the 12 regional languages as well as in English for five major disciplines such as computer science, electrical, mechanical, electronics & communication and civil. The books were first written in English and then translated into other languages.
