JEE Advanced 2025 Attempt Limit

Shiksha Poll Reveals 44% Voters Support Three Attempts for JEE Advanced 2025; SC Hearing on Jan 6

A poll conducted on shiksha.com aimed to capture candidates' reactions to the JEE Advanced attempt limit policy change that was announced on November 18, 2024. For those unaware, here's a quick recap: The Joint Admission Board (JAB), which oversees JEE Advanced for admissions into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), initially announced on November 5, 2024, that the number of attempts would be increased to three. However, this decision was reversed on November 18, 2024, restoring the previous limit of two attempts per candidate. In response, a group of 22 JEE aspirants approached the Supreme Court to challenge this sudden change. The Supreme Court was scheduled to hear the case on December 20, but the hearing was postponed to January 6.

Poll Results

Out of a total of 10,903 responses, 44% supported restoring the three-attempt limit for JEE Advanced. The poll asked, "Do you agree with the rollback on JEE Advanced attempt limits?" The results were as follows:

  • 44% (4,766 votes): No, three attempts are better.
  • 42% (4,583 votes): Two attempts are okay.
  • 5% (577 votes): Not aware of any changes.
  • 9% (977 votes): It does not matter whether the limit is two or three attempts.

The poll ran from November 19 to December 31, 2024. While 44% of participants favoured three attempts, a significant portion (42%) preferred the two-attempt limit. The difference between the two groups was just 183 votes.

Upcoming Decision on JEE Advanced Attempt Limit

The Supreme Court is expected to make a final decision on the JEE Advanced attempt limit on January 6. According to the official website and the JEE Advanced 2025 information brochure, the current limit is two attempts in two consecutive years. This means candidates who took JEE Advanced in 2023 are not eligible for the 2025 exam, but those who first appeared in 2024 can take another shot this year.

JEE Advanced 2025 registration will start on April 23. The applications will be available online until May 2 on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. JEE Advanced will be held in CBT mode across 224 exam cities.
