Special PhD admissions open at IIT Gandhinagar

Eligible students belonging to SC/ST/PWD/OBC(NCL) categories can apply by March 25, 2023.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar has invited applications from students belonging to SC/ST/PWD/OBC(NCL) categories for admission to its PhD programme for the 2023-24 academic year. The last date to apply is March 25, 2023.  

The institute offers PhD programmes in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Design, Earth Sciences, Economics, Electrical Engineering, History, Language & Literature, Materials Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Social Epidemiology and Sociology, Development economics.  

Eligibility Criteria 

• At least 55% marks or 5.5 CPI marks in M.A./M.Sc./B.Tech./M.Tech./BS (IISc, IISER)/BS-MS (IISER) or equivalent degree in appropriate branches.  
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD categories would be eligible for relaxations, as per norms, in the selection criteria.

 As per the official website of the institute, the exact date/time for the written examinations and/or interview will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates by respective disciplines/academic office. Candiadtes belonging to SC/ST/PWD Category are required to pay an application fee of INR 150, whereas the application fee for OBC candidates is INR 300. 

Financial Support 

Students joining the PhD programme as regulars (RR) may be considered for the Institute Fellowship (subjected to availability of fund) based on the following norms: 

1. Candidates with qualifications in any of the points (a-f) mentioned below are eligible for a monthly fellowship of INR 31,000. 

• Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science with NET/GATE Qualification or Graduate Degree in Professional Courses (B.Tech/B.E.) with NET/GATE Qualification or Postgraduate Degree in Professional Courses (M.Tech/M.E. etc) 
• BTech degree from a CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10). 
• MSc/MA from IITs with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10) 
• BS from IISc with CPI at least 6.4 (on a scale of 8) 
• BS-MS from IISERs with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10) 
• BS from IISERs with CPI at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10) 

2. After successful completion of two years in a regular PhD programme, a PhD candidate may be eligible for a monthly fellowship of Rs. 35,000/-.
