Q. First of all congratulations to you on successfully clearing the JEE Main exam. what was your reaction when you came to know about this?

Kanav: I was definitely surprised because I was expecting somewhere around 500-700 but this was much more than my expectation, so I was very happy.

Q. How much was the score and percentile?

Kanav: The Score in JEE Main Session 2 which was considered the final result was 99.98. My percentile was 99.985 and the mark I got is 280.

Q. When and how did you decide to go for a B.Tech course?

Kanav: Actually, FIITJEE was the main reason for going for B.Tech, because when I was in class 8, I saw one of the FIITJEE advertisements and some of my friends were taking the scholarship exam. So, after that, I started researching science and everything else and I got inspired to pursue B.Tech.

Q. Tell something about yourself, your family and which school you studied.

Kanav: My father is a software engineer and my mother is a housewife. I studied up to 10th at Indirapuram Public School in Ghaziabad, and after that, I studied at Vivekananda School, which is located in Narela, Delhi.

Q. When did you start preparing for JEE and what was your strategy?

Kanav: Actually, I started from class 9th when I joined FIITJEE, I started the rigorous plan for B.Tech. I started preparing for JEE Advanced from Class 9 and after class 11th I also started preparing for JEE Mains. The focus shifted from Olympiads to mainly advanced and Mains preparation immediately.

Q. What were your strong and weak areas?

Kanav: I think my comparatively stronger areas are in physics while I am comparatively weaker in organic chemistry because my memorization skills are I think not at the level they should be.

Q. Which books did you refer to for JEE preparations?

Kanav: I mainly referred to the FIITJEE course material and test series, but between when they were sufficient, but, when I wanted to enhance some particular areas or subjects, I asked my teachers and they recommended a few standard books like H. C. Verma.

Q. When did you start taking full-length mock tests?

Kanav: I started taking full-length mock tests in about December last year.

Q. How did you balance your JEE preparation with the schools and board examinations?

Kanav: I think board examinations were not really difficult, I did not exactly study specifically for them because for JEE you have to thoroughly memorize the NCERT textbooks and understand them. So, the science subjects were already taken care of by it.

Plus, as I was going to the school, (the teachers there were very supportive and helped me to prepare for board simultaneously.

Q. What was your exam preparation strategy if you want to talk?

Kanav: Exam preparation strategy, well, I mainly focused on JEE advanced but before the actual JEE mains paper, about one month before that, I started increasing the percentage of JEE mains type questions in my study hours.

I started increasing them gradually and by the time JEE mains rolled around, I think I was more than prepared to face the examinations.

Q. How were you unwinding yourself?

Kanav: I mainly unwinded by going down to the society compound talk to my friends and playing a few games. So I went to the society compound and played mainly badminton and volleyball, etc.

Q. Which college do you want to go and which course you want to take in B.Tech?

Kanav: I think my first preference would be IIT Delhi as it's close to home. I would like I get the CSE course.

Q. What are your plans after completing your B.Tech?

Kanav: Actually, I have not thought about giving much thought to that. My focus is currently on the immediate target.

Q. What will be your suggestion for those who are going to take the JEE next year?

Kanav: My main suggestion is to give a mock test because even when you think that you are extremely prepared for a particular paper, you will not be giving yourself the edge that you require if you have not practised ample mock tests and PYT.
