The newborn care unit in Etah Medical College has been non-operational for the last six months due to no staff present at the unit.

As per the reports coming in, the newborn care unit (SNCU) in Etah Medical College has not been functional for the past six months due to no staff present at the unit. Medical college records show that there are sanctioned posts for three doctors and 22 supporting staff to run that unit but all these posts remain vacant at present. Parents whose newborns have ailments are left with no choice but to take their children to private hospitals.

As per the medical college administration, the newborn unit has 12 beds and all required equipment and it is not functional only due to the absence of staff. The total staff needed at the unit are three doctors, 12 staff nurses, three sanitation workers, three ward attendants, three security guards, and one computer operator.

TOI has quoted Chief medical superintendent Ashok Kumar, "SNCU is non-operational as we don't have the required number of doctors and supporting staff to run the facility. The matter has been brought to the notice of higher authorities and the process for the appointment of paediatricians is in progress. We are making efforts to soon begin operations at SNCU."

Etah Medical College hospital has a total of 330 beds. The college was set up by the Uttar Pradesh government. As per the college's official portal, it is equipped with the most modern R&D facilities, latest scientific equipment and teaching aids and have hostel facilities for both boys and girls along with residential accommodation for faculty and other staff.
