Banaras Hindu University administration has termed a notice circulating on social media regarding the reopening of campus in a phased manner as ‘fake’.

When will the university be opened for us people, is there a thing called shame or not??? You guys are ruining the future of thousands of students,” says Sandeep Singh, a Banaras Hindu University student.
Many of the students of BHU are requesting the university administration to reopen the campus.

Meanwhile, Banaras Hindu University administration has termed a notice circulating on social media regarding the reopening of campus in a phased manner as ‘fake’. The university has stated that it has not issued a notice regarding the reopening of campus for offline classes. However, BHU students are demanding for resuming offline classes as according to them online classes are affecting their studies.

Issuing a statement over fake notice, the BHU administration issued a letter stating that a fake notice regarding the opening of the university is being shared on social media. “Please be aware of any kind of unverified and untrue information. Any information regarding the University will be transmitted through official channels,” reads the letter by BHU administration.

Offline classes were suspended in March this year when the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic struck the nation.

Another student, Nitesh Kumar reacting to the BHU letter said: “Quickly issue the original notice, children are tired of doing online classes.”

The fake letter stated that the University is going to reopen in a phased manner as per the terms of the University Grants Commission (UGC) from November 13, 2021. In the first phase, the university has been opened for final year students of all programmes.

BHU administration is yet to finalize the modalities of reopening the campus for offline classes or allowing students to return to their hostels.

Prafulla Pandey, another student of BHU says: “Sir, when will the university open when the students of the final year are allowed to return to campus, what is their fault that they are not being allowed to return when most of the universities around the world are reopening.

“It is high time the university should reopen its campus, we are losing a lot by not being able to return to campus. Online classes are not very fruitful and nowhere when compared with offline classes where students get to interact with other students, visit labs and get other kinds of exposure,” says Khushi Gupta a final year BHU student.
