DU Celebrated International Yoga Day

Delhi University (DU) organised the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21. About one thousand people practised mass yoga including DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh and Member of Parliament, Manoj Tiwari. The event was organized at 6:00 am at the Multipurpose Hall of the Sports Complex, University of Delhi. The theme of International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024 was “Yoga for self and society”.

Manoj Tiwari highlighted his delight in being a part of the DU International Day of Yoga event and educate individuals about the recognition of International Day of Yoga at the global level saying “Today, 172 countries of the world have accepted ancient Indian culture through yoga. In 2014, the United Nations accepted the proposal of our Prime Minister and decided to celebrate ‘International Day of Yoga’ every year on June 21.”

He further urges people to adopt a healthy lifestyle in order to live a better life.

“Our elders bless us to live for 100 years, but to live for 100 years, special food habits and lifestyle are needed. We went a step ahead and encouraged the inclusion of millets in the diet and the world celebrated the International Year of Millets.” Member of Parliament, Manoj Tiwari further added.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh describes the importance of yoga and how yoga stabilizes the mind and moves the body.

“June 21 is the longest day of the year, that is why it has been chosen as the Day of Yoga. It stabilizes the mind and keeps the body moving, whereas in normal life the opposite happens, the mind runs more and if we do not do any physical exercise, then the body becomes sluggish.” Said DU’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh.

During the program, Yoga Guru Surakshit Goswami made the people present there practice various yoga asanas. At the end of the program, Yoga Guru Varun Arya also gave information about Ayurveda along with yoga.
