Teachers have alleged that faculty teaching for 20, 17, and 15 years have been thrown out of their jobs through interviews not lasting for more than 2 minutes.

Delhi University teachers have approached Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh over mass-scale displacements of working ad-hoc teachers in its affiliated colleges. There has been mass-scale displacement of ad-hoc teachers in some of the colleges, with Hansraj, Ramjas and Laxmi Bai, the rate of displacement amounting to more than 80%.

The teachers in their letter to DU VC have alleged that this displacement of teachers is being done through farcical interviews.

According to Democratic Teachers Front, in some of the Delhi University colleges like Hansraj, Ramjas and Laxmi Bai, the rate of the displacement amounts to more than 80% and especially that of teachers who have been teaching for the longest period in their respective colleges including temporary teachers who were appointed through regular selection committees.

In DRC and SSN too, the number of teachers displaced is more than 50%.

More than 4500 teachers have been working as adhocs in various colleges and departments of the University of Delhi.

The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has been demanding the One-Time Regularization of ad-hoc teachers at DU as they have been teaching for nearly a decade. The same was repeatedly raised by the elected representatives across political groups in the Academic Council.

In their letter, the DTF teachers have stated that in the absence of the aforesaid Regulation on absorption, when the University of Delhi decided to initiate the process of appointments through interviews in 2022, it was expected that the University would be considerate towards the teachers teaching for years as adhocs in different colleges and ensuring permanent appointments for those who had served for such long years despite extremely harsh conditions of no leave or any other benefits that accrue to permanent teachers.

However, it has been alleged that what has transpired in the last few months is nothing short of a massacre, especially in the colleges mentioned above where Principals acted with a vendetta against their own colleagues. Teachers teaching for 20, 17, and 15 years have been thrown out of their jobs through interviews not lasting for more than 2 minutes.

In Ramjas College, 10 out of 11 working teachers in the Maths department, 4 out of 5 in the Statistics department and 15 out of 19 working teachers in the Physics department have been displaced with impunity, despite teaching in the college for more than a decade and having made a stellar contribution to the institution.

The story is similar in Laxmi Bai and Hansraj Colleges where certain departments witnessed 100% displacements, again, of teachers working for the longest time.

They have urged the Vice Chancellor to ensure that such mass-scale displacements do not take place and this situation whereby the livelihood of ad-hoc teachers is under serious attack today is brought to a stop.
