DU colleges to launch around 22 UG-PG courses, 900 seats to be added
As many as 14 colleges affiliated with Delhi University are planning to launch nearly two dozen new Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) courses from the upcoming academic session. If the colleges get the approval to launch these courses, the number of UG-PG seats in DU would go up by 900.
The admission season at the University of Delhi (DU) is on, with the application process for PG courses over and that of UG courses still on, colleges are all set to accommodate more students. Some of the colleges of the university are planning to start courses in new areas keeping in line with the suggestions of the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
Hansraj College is planning to increase 70-80 seats in its BA program course, along with launching two new courses- BA (Honors) Journalism and Mass Communication and BA (Honors) Music, with 30 seats each. Sri Venkateshwara College located in the South Campus of DU is planning to start two masters level courses from this year, MA English and MA Hindi.
While three other colleges have planned to launch BA Programme in Physical Education, the colleges are Jesus and Mary College, Bhagini Nivedita College and Motilal Nehru College.
These colleges have sent their proposals to the university for approval. The proposals are likely to be discussed in the Academic Council meeting to be held soon.
Shyam Lal College located in East Delhi is planning to start BSc (Honors) Botany, BSc (Honors) Computer Science and BSc (Honors) Operational Research.
Janki Devi Memorial College is also planning to start three UG courses: BSc (Honors) Computer Science, BSc (Honors) Operational Research, BSc (Honors) Statistics.
Other courses which have been planned by DU colleges are BSc (Honors) Operational Research and BA (Honors) History by Ramanujan College. Dyal Singh College (Evening) is planning to start BSc (Honors) Computer Science and BSc (Honors) Operational Research.
Deshbandhu College is planning to start BA (Honors) Philosophy, while Bharti College is planning to launch B.Sc (Honors) in Computer Science and Zakir Husain College is planning to BA (Honors) Sanskrit from this year.
Prior to giving approval a team from the university will inspect the infrastructure and other facilities at these colleges.
