DU to Distribute Laptops to Specially Abled, Orphan Female Students; Launch of Special Ambulance Announced

Along with the distribution of laptops and the launch of the University of Delhi ambulance, a special book highlighting the contribution of donors of the university will be released during the inaugural 'Samarpan Samaroh' of the university.  

Delhi University

The University of Delhi, with assistance from the Delhi University Foundation, will conduct “Samarpan Samaroh”, an event celebrating philanthropy, excellence, and community service on January 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The event will include the distribution of Laptops and Tablets to orphaned female students, single-parent female students and visually impaired students of the University of Delhi. Besides, the university will launch the dedicated fully functional university ambulance and release the ‘Commemorative Volume of Donor’s Chronicle, 2024’. 

The Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, will be the Chief Guest of the event while Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Prof Yogesh Singh will grace the event with his presence.

Delhi University Samarpan Samaroh 2025: Key Highlights 

  • The Delhi University Foundation will initiate Project Sashakt Beti aims to empower female students by providing laptops, who are either orphans or single-parent children with a family income of less than INR 4 lac, studying at the University. Moreover, Project e-Drishti provides tablets to enhance the learning and research capabilities of the visually impaired students of the university. 
  • Further, the University of Delhi will unveil a fully equipped ambulance donated by LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation, which will ensure better healthcare access and emergency response for the faculty, staff and students of the University of Delhi. 
  • The university will going forward launch the book, Commemorative Volume of Donor’s Chronicle, 2024, highlighting the contributions and legacies of the esteemed Donors to the University.

Q:   What are the facilities offered by DU?

A:
DU infrastructure includes several modern amenities and state-of-the-art infrastructure for its students. The university provides transport facilities, banking facilities, a university library, and several other facilities for its students across all its affiliated colleges. DU consists of 34 libraries across all of its campuses in Delhi. It has a total of 15 hostels for its students on the north and south campuses. Hostel facilities for UG students are extensively available within the respective campuses of its constituent colleges. Delhi University consists over 1,060 academic staff members including temporary and permanent professors. It offers around 16 faculty members and 86 departments under all the affiliated colleges of Delhi University. In addition to this, from presidents to prime ministers, Delhi University has witnessed visits from numerous inspiring personalities such as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Narendra Modi, Atal Bihar Vajpayee and Morarji Desai among others.

University of Delhi is one of the premier institutions of our country and hence draws a large number of students from all parts of India and abroad. The concern for the outstation students, after securing admission is the availability of a safe and comfortable accommodation. In order to meet the requirements of such students DU offers separate hostel facilities for both male and female students.

A:

University of Delhi provides hostel facility to students pursuing a course from the university based on their merit and other factors. Students with good academic performance have a good chance of getting hostel provided their location is far from the campus. DU also follows a reservation policy as given below in hostel allocation:
