DU to Give 10 Grace Marks to Students with One Paper Backlog
DU Updates: Delhi University has decided to provide grace marks to students who have not passed their final paper and have exhausted all available attempts to earn their degree. Check complete details here
Delhi University (DU) has announced that it will grant 10 grace marks to students who, despite using all available opportunities, are unable to pass one final paper necessary for their degree. This provision also encompasses students whose graduation was planned for 2021-22 and 2022-23, aligning with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. It also includes those who took part in the centenary chance, permitting a maximum of four papers.
Grace Marking by Delhi University
As per PTI, "If a student has not been able to complete his/her degree because they flunked a single paper, the Delhi University will grant 10 additional marks to such students to help them pass the exam and obtain their degree," says a DU official. The additional 10 marks will be granted exclusively to students who have been unsuccessful in clearing a single paper even after utilizing all available special chances. The official emphasized that this step aims to aid those encountering obstacles in finishing their degrees and stressed that it's a one-time provision.
The decision extends beyond undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students, including MPhil students as well. It obtained approval from the Executive Council, the university's top decision-making body, intending to offer support to students who encountered unexpected difficulties amid the pandemic.
DU to Set-Up a Committee To Simplify the Process
The university plans to set up a committee comprising academic advisors, faculty, and administrators to simplify the process. This committee will assess students' appeals for grace marks, taking into account factors like challenges in remote learning, restricted access to resources, or health issues. Students need to provide a valid explanation for their inability to pass the single paper, and the committee will make decisions on a case-by-case basis. Moreover, the committee might choose to arrange a special chance examination to assist eligible students in completing their degrees.
