As per the notification released by the University, the PhD admission fee for Arts, Law and Fine Arts has enhanced to INR 15,000 and the PhD admission fees for Science, Technology, Medicine, Commerce and Management have been increased to INR 25,000.

The Gauhati University (GU) has hiked the fees for admission, registration and others for PhD, MPhil, and DSc/D Litt courses. As per the notification released by the University, the PhD admission fee for Arts, Law and Fine Arts has enhanced to INR 15,000 and the PhD admission fees for Science, Technology, Medicine, Commerce and Management have been increased to INR 25,000. 

As per the notice, the MPhil admission fee for Arts, Law and Fine Arts has been hiked to INR 25,000. For Science and Technology, Medicine, Commerce and Management, the fee has been increased to INR 30,000.  Again for the course of PhD, the authorities have increased the monthly fee for PhD (Arts) to INR 800 and for PhD (Science) to INR 1000.

The fees for thesis submission in the course of PhD have been raised to INR 8,000 and the MPhil dissertation submission fee has been increased to INR 3,500. Moreover, the University has also increased fees for viva–voce, extensions, thesis publication, and application forms, besides the guideship application fee. A section of the students of the university seemed to be unhappy with the recent fee hike and opposed the decision taken by the authorities.
