No Reserved Faculty Recruited at JNU, BHU, NEHU, Visva Bharti in Mission Mode

The backlog vacancies which existed before September 2021 remain in central institutions in large numbers.

No reserved category faculty posts were filled by leading central universities like Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, Pondicherry University, Visva Bharti and Assam University during the mission mode appointment period announced by the Ministry of Education last year.

The Ministry of Education last year in September announced mission mode recruitment to be carried out by all the higher education institutions to fill up vacant teaching posts by September 05, 2022. However, as per a statement by the Government large number of teaching posts are still lying vacant a majority of IITs and central universities.

Universities like BHU, JNU, AU, PU, Visva Bharti, NEHU (North Eastern Hill University), and Rajiv Gandhi University have not recruited even a single faculty member from the reserved category of Other Backward Castes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (OBCs, SCs, STs). The backlog vacancies which existed before September 2021 still remain in these institutions.

*Above universities could not fill even single reserved category posts, however only Visva Bharati appointed three assitant professors during this period.   

The situation of new central universities is equally bad with the Central University of Jammu, the Central University of Jharkhand, the Central University of Punjab, Central University of Rajasthan are in the same league as they have also not been able to recruit candidates from reserved categories during the same period.

JNU, BHU, NEHU, Assam University highest vacancy 

In September 2021, JNU had 85 faculty posts from the reserved category vacant, of which 33 was for professors, 30 for associate professors and 22 for assistant professors, the same number of posts were vacant even on September 2022.

At BHU 114 teaching posts were vacant in September 2021, which still exist as on September 2022. Of these 36 are profs, 31 of associate profs and 22 are assistant profs.
Assam University still has 39 reserved category faculty posts vacant, similarly, Visva Bharti has 28 posts vacant and NEHU has 54 posts vacant which could not be filled during the mission mode period.

At other central universities, there has been some recruitment however, the numbers are not very high.

The mission mode recruitment, including filling up of backlog vacancies, was conducted for different cadres in all categories in different Institutes. Similarly, the University Grants Commission (UGC) also directed all Central Universities to fill up vacancies in a Mission Mode within a period of one year starting from 5 th September, 2021 to 4th September, 2022.
