The WBJEEB will now refund the students who had applied for PUBDET 2020 as the entrance exam was not conducted this year.

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) will refund the Presidency University Bachelor Entrance Test (PUBDET) application fee after the Student’s Federation of India (SFI)-controlled Presidency University Students’ Union and rival Independents’ Consolidation (IC) students’ bodies had demanded an immediate refund of Rs 500 as taken per application fee from each candidate. The WBJEEB conducts PUBDET on behalf of the Presidency University, Kolkata in order to offer students admission to its Undergraduate courses offered in Sciences and Humanities and Social Science subjects.

The WBJEEB also conducts the Presidency University Masters Entrance Test (PUMDET) in order to offer students admission to Postgraduate (PG) courses offered at the varsity in Science and Humanities and Social Science subjects offered. A refund is being demanded for PUBDET applications as there was no entrance exam conducted and admission was offered on the basis of merit.

According to sources, the board in a meeting stated,” The PUBDET 2020 examination and counselling which were to be conducted by WBJEEB were cancelled due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. WBJEEB will shortly arrange to refund the application fee for the examination paid by the candidates”.

The amount will be refunded to the student’s respective bank accounts and a message will be sent accordingly.

Admission to UG courses were done on the basis of merit i.e. marks secured in Class 12 and on meeting the eligibility criteria. Candidates who met the cut-off were offered admission to the course applied for. However, candidates had already paid the application fee for PUBDET, which was not conducted this year due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic.
