UGC further extends feedback deadline on Foreign University Regulations 2023
The last date for receiving comments on the draft regulations has been extended to February 20, 2023
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has once again extended the last date for feedback on the Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India Regulations, 2023. The UGC has extended the date to February 20, 2023.
On January 5, the UGC came up with the Draft Regulations for setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India, Regulations, 2023. Following which it issued a public notice seeking comments from the stakeholders on the draft. Later is extended the deadline for feedback to February 03 on the draft regulations, which been extended again.
As per the UGC notice, in view of the requests being received from the stakeholders to extend the last date for submitting comments/suggestions/feedback on the aforesaid draft Regulations, the last date for receiving comments on the draft regulations is hereby extended to February 20, 2023.
The foreign university regulations will allow universities with a rank among the top 500 global rankings or a foreign educational institution of repute in home jurisdiction to apply to the UGC to set up a campus in India. The initial approval will be for 10 years, which can be extended.
These foreign universities will also have autonomy to recruit faculty and staff from India and abroad. These universities will only offer on campus programmes and they will not be permitted to offer online and open and distance learning mode courses.
