UGC Grants six months extension for MPhil, PhD submission
Higher Educational institutions have been allowed to give extension on a case-to-case basis.
The University Grants Commission has once again allowed for the extension of the last date of M.Phil, PhD submission. The UGC has allowed universities and colleges to give six months extension to such students.
As per a notice issued by the UGC regarding extension of date for submission of thesis for terminal M.Phil/Ph.D students and in continuation of UGC public notice dated December 1, 2021, it has been decided to give six months extension.
The UGC Notice reads: “Keeping in view the larger interest of the research scholars, it has been decided by the UGC that an extension of up to six months, beyond June 30, 2022, may be given to the students by their respective Higher Educational institutions, on a case-to-case basis.”
The decision has to be taken based on the review of the student's work by the Research Advisory Committee and on the recommendation of the supervisor and the Head of the Department of each individual case.
“Such extension may also be granted for submitting evidence of publication and presentation in two Conferences. However, tenure of fellowship will remain up to five years only,” reads the UGC notice.
The UGC has been allowing extensions since the COVID-19 pandemic struck because of which students could not complete their PhD or MPhil, nor were able to present their papers at any conference.
