UGC to notify Four Yr UG Programme Regulations today

All universities will be able to enrol students in 4-year undergraduate courses (BA, B.Com, B.Sc.) etc. from academic session 2023-24.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will release the outline of the Four Year Undergraduate Course (FYUP) today, which has been prepared as per the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). The UGC will share the necessary guidelines with the universities to implement FYUP from the next academic year.

Following the announcement, all universities will be able to enrol students in 4-year undergraduate courses (BA, B.Com, B.Sc.) etc. from academic session 2023-24. The UGC guidelines will allow all the students to enrol for the 4-year undergraduate course, however, students will not be forced to enrol in this course. If the students wish, they can continue with the already running 3-year undergraduate courses only.

From 2023-24 all new students will have the option of four-year undergraduate courses, and existing students of UG courses will also have the option to enrol for FYUP from the next session.

The UGC is planning to roll out 4-year undergraduate courses in central universities across the country next year. State universities and private universities will also have the option to start 4-year undergraduate courses. Deemed to be universities are also likely to give their consent to implement FYUP.

UGC will also give freedom to various universities to make some rules and regulations related to four years UG programme. It will also allow the universities to allow students studying in the final year to be given the opportunity to be a part of 4-year undergraduate courses.
