IIT Delhi Rolls back M.Tech, PhD fee hike
The fee hike has been rolled back on the basis of recommendations of the committee set up by the Director to look into the representation made by a set of M.Tech. Students
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has rolled back the fee hike for PG students. Two days back, post-graduate (M.Tech, PhD) students of IIT Delhi started the protest against the fee hike and demanded its rollback.
As per a statement released by IIT Delhi, it has reduced the fee of new PG students, who joined during the 2nd Semester 2021-22 or later. This has been done on the basis of recommendations of the committee set up by the Director to look into the representation made by a set of M.Tech. students.
As a result, the tuition fee and other charges have been reduced significantly. The M.Tech. full-time tuition fee has been reduced from Rs. 25,000 per semester to Rs. 17,500 per semester. Similarly, the tuition fee of other PG programmes have been reduced. In addition to the tuition fee, there is a reduction in other components of fees as well.
Based on a decision taken by the Board in January 2022, IIT Delhi increased the M.Tech courses fee from Rs 24,650 to Rs 53,100 and the fee for PhD from Rs 20,150 to Rs 30,850 for the academic year 2022-23.
Last month, students of IIT Bombay protested against the fee hike and the institute rolled it back later, similarly, students of IIT-Delhi held a protest against the M.Tech fee hike, which according to them was more than 100 percent.
