The institute won the second prize in the best institution/RWA/ religious organisations for campus category. While Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board bagged the first prize in this category, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Faridabad, received the second prize.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar bagged the second prize for efforts towards water conservation in the National Water Awards 2020 orgainsed by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti. The institute won the second prize in the best institution/RWA/ religious organisations for campus category. While Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board bagged the first prize in this category, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Faridabad, received the second prize. In the best state category, Uttar Pradesh was awarded the first prize, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
IIT Gandhinagar tweeted, "We are delighted to share that @iitgn has won 2nd prize in the National Water Award 2020 under the category of "Best Institution/RWA/Religious organisation for campus usage”. Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri @gssjodhpur announced the 3rd National Water Awards 2020 on Jan 7."
The National Water Awards was launched by the ministry in 2018. This year, a total of 57 awards across 11 different categories were announced. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Shekhawat said India’s current water requirement is estimated to be around 1,100 billion cubic metre per year, which is projected to go up to 1,447 billion cubic metre by 2050. He said the aim of the awards is to encourage competition among states in the area of water conservation.
