The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has become a COVID-19 hotspot after reporting a surge in fresh cases. Students from all over the country had participated in the 54th convocation ceremony at IIT Kanpur that took place on December 28, 2021. So far, as many as 97 people have tested positive for COVID-19 at IIT Kanpur.
On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh recorded 7,695 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours. The maximum number of cases (1,222) were reported from Gautam Buddh Nagar. Meanwhile, Lucknow registered 1,115 COVID cases, Ghaziabad 922, Meerut 715, and Varanasi 437.
Meanwhile, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela ordered closure of the institute amid the rising COVID-19 cases. As many as 174 people, including 87 students, were found infected with the virus till Sunday. The institute will be closed for five days, including holidays, from January 12 to 16.
Meanwhile, 173 people have tested positive for COVID at NIT Hamirpur. The institute was declared a ‘mini containment zone’ on January 7 to contain the spread of the virus. Sixty-seven students at the Madras Institute of Technology, one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University, in Chromepet, Chennai, have been found infected with the COVID-19 infection. Most of the students are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
More than 50 persons, including students and a faculty member, have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati since December 31, 2021. IIT Kharagpur also reported 60 COVID cases. Out of them, 40 are students and researchers.
