DU LLB 2023: why to consider CLAT 2023 for law admission instead of CUET, asks Delhi HC

In a plea filed by a law student, the Delhi High Court has criticized the Delhi University on its decision to consider CLAT 2023 scores for admission to the five-year integrated law courses.

Court said since all other universities are relying on CUET marks, why is DU considering CLAT?

"You are not special," added the court, as reported by Bar and Bench.

A Division Bench of CJ Satish Chandra Sharma and J Sanjeev Narula was hearing the matter. The Bench asked the DU's counsel if 18 Central universities are relying on CUET for admissions into the UG courses which includes five-year law courses, why is DU considering CLAT scores?

Adv Mohinder Rupal appeared for DU and told the Court that a special committee was constituted to consider the issue and the committee said CLAT has to be adopted. Rupal further stated that the report was presented before the Academic Council and Executive Council.

As the Bench was inclined to pass the order today itself, the DU sought a weeks' time to file its counter affidavit in the matter. The Court has allowed DU to file its response and listed the case for further consideration next week.

The University has made a statement that it will not release any advertisement inviting applications for admission to the five-year law course till the case is decided by the High Court.

The Court made clear that if no response is filed by the next week, the case will be heard on the issue of grant of interim relief.
