CLAT 2020 will be conducted in social-distanced remote proctored online mode on August 22. No changes in the exam mode as SC rejects plea against online CLAT 2020.
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2020 is scheduled to be held on August 22 in a Social-Distance Computer-Based Test mode. The exam will be held at as many as 203 test centres across India, which have been increased due to COVID-19 risk. Now, a plea was filed in the Supreme Court seeking change in the decided exam mode for CLAT 2020.
According to the plea filed by Advocate Mitul Jain, there should not be any specific test centres for CLAT and, the online proctored mode will be a limitation for those candidates who do not have a computer system to take the exam. The court proceeding was held in a video-conferencing mode due to COVID-19 risk and, SC has rejected the plea right away.
This year, CLAT exam pattern has seen many changes from weightage to type of questions in all sections. Earlier, the Consortium of National Law Universities had decided to conduct CLAT 2020 in an offline mode. However, they had to change the mode of examination to 'Social-Distanced and Remotely Proctored CBT mode due to COVID-19 risk. Moreover, the number of test centres for CLAT 2020 has been increased from 97 to 203 for the same.
CLAT consortium had also facilitated candidates with 'application withdrawal' option to not appear for the exam in the current scenario.
Earlier too, a plea was filed regarding changes in the exam languages and, now the Bar Council of India has formed a committee for the same.
