Owing to a decline in COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government has finally lifted the mandatory COVID vaccine mandate for students in the state's colleges, universities and other higher educational institutions. With this announcement, many students are now relaxed as they can now enter the campus and attend their offline classes even if they have not received vaccination against COVID-19.

State Minister of Higher and Technical Education Uday Samant had tweeted,  “Earlier, it was mandatory to take two covid vaccines for attendance at university and college. Now this condition has been waived and now all students can attend university and college."

On February 1, 2022, Maharashtra colleges and universities had reopened. However, only those students were allowed to enter the campus for physical and offline classes, who have been fully vaccinated with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination.

Students without the vaccination and the vaccine certificate were not allowed to attend offline classes at Maharashtra Colleges and Universities. However, that rule has now been removed. Students have now been allowed to attend their offline classes even if they have not been vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine.

It must be noted that the vaccination rule has been removed, however, the basic COVID-19 protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, frequent hand sanitising and more are still to be followed. Maharashtra has reported 48 thousand fresh cases in the state. The recovery rate recorded in the state stands at 86.4 per cent and the death toll in Maharashtra stands at 1.49 per cent.
