Maharashtra NEET PG Counselling: MD, MS seats in Deemed universities get costlier

Maharashtra NEET PG Counselling: Amid the confusion over the PG medical courses fee structure in Maharashtra, many Deemed universities have hiked fees by INR 2 lakh to INR 5 lakh per annum for various MD and MS courses. The state medical education department has invited opinions from all stakeholders regarding the implementation of NMC's guidelines that 50% of seats in private medical colleges and Deemed universities must cost as par with the government colleges fees. Till now there is no clarity on this, which is causing stress among NEET PG Counselling 2022 candidates and their parents.

After the fee hike in the state, a course in MD Radio-diagnosis or dermatology will cost students INR 35 lakh per annum at MGM Medical College in Navi Mumbai as compared to INR 25 lakh last year. Moreover, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Wardha will cost a student INR 42.6 lakh as against INR 38.95 lakh in the 2021-22 academic year, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Similarly, at Pune’s Bhartiya Vidyapeeth, a seat in MD Radio-diagnosis will cost INR 36.75 lakh per annum for the new batch, as opposed to INR 35 lakh last year.

There are a few colleges including DY Patil Medical College in Navi Mumbai, which could maintain their fee structure as equal to last year but even in these colleges fees for MD in Orthopaedics will cost INR 60 lakh per annum and an MS in General Surgery will cost INR 40 lakh per annum. DY Patil Medical College in Pune, however, has hiked its fees across courses by INR 1.5 lakh-2.5 lakh per annum this year.

Earlier this year NMC had issued an Office Memorandum to implement 50% of seats in private medical colleges and Deemed universities must cost as par with the government medical colleges, that too from this year only. Till now, only MP has implemented NMC's fee structure guideline whereas Madras High Court has told NMC to revisit its Office Memorandum.
