NMC (National Medical Commission) has put the Dhule-based Annasaheb Chudaman Patil Memorial Medical College on the no-admission list after it was not so impressed while a surprise visit to the college.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC (National Medical Commission) has cancelled the recognition for the 50 new MBBS seats at Annasaheb Chudaman Patil Memorial Medical College and also cancelled the college's permission for 100 existing MBBS seats after the apex medical regulator was not satisfied during a surprise visit to the Dhule based private medical college.

After NMC's decision, the college moved to High Court and said that the surprise visit was made on a holiday. On which the court has ordered re-inspection by NMC to come to a final decision. The dean of the college Dr Vijay Patil has said to TOI, "It was a holiday and some of the teaching staff were not on campus. Based on this, a report was submitted by the team.

The institute is run by Jawahar Medical Foundation and it charges one of the lowest fees for MBBS courses which is around INR 5.5 lakh when compared to other private medical institutes.

The college initially had permission for admitting 100 students for the MBBS course and for the academic session 2021-2022, it was granted permission to admit 50 more students, hence the total intake capacity of the medical college was 150 seats.

On January 14, NMC did a surprise inspection of the institute and found many deficiencies and hence passed an order to withdraw the letter of permission to increase 50 MBBS seats for the academic session 2021-2022. Moreover, it ordered that the college is not recommended for admission to the existing 100 MBBS seats as well and hence the college was completely put on the no-admission list for MBBS seats.

College's counsel has said in the High Court that when the earlier inspection was made, everything was found in order and now after the surprise visit, a contrary report has been submitted. NMC has said that it is entitled to conduct a surprise visit as per the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.

HC has directed the NMC, "The respondent Nos. 1 and 2 shall conduct the inspection preferably by 30.01.2022 and based on the inspection may take a fresh decision with regard to the permission to admit the students. The said decision shall be taken preferably by 03.02.2022 as it is submitted that the last date for admission would be by 07.02.2022."

"While passing the fresh order the impugned order would not be an impediment, nor the respondents shall be guided by the same. The fresh decision shall be taken on the basis of the fresh inspection made and the report received."
