The government of Maharashtra allowed the reopening of schools for Classes 1 to 12 from January 24 for offline classes.
Maharashtra School Reopening: Amid the declining cases of the novel coronavirus and reopening of schools in the state, the Maharashtra government has decided to resume the mid-day meal scheme in all state schools from March 15. An official circular issued by the Directorate of School Education directed all schools to resume mid-day meals that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
According to a report shared by Indian Express, the official notice released by the department said, “It is proposed to start serving cooked meals in schools from March 15, adhering to the Covid protocol. Order will be issued to local administrations to make required arrangements for this.”
Dinkar Temkar, Director of School Education, Maharashtra informed the media house that even as schools commenced offline classes earlier, increasing cases of COVID-19 in December-January forced the authorities to shut schools again considering the safety of staff and children. This impact continued till earlier this month. Now with changing conditions, this decision is taken.

The state ordered shutting down of schools in Maharashtra in the first week of January after witnessing a spike a in the novel coronavirus cases and in the wake of the emergence of the highly infectious Omicron variant. Meanwhile, the Bihar government has decided to start mid-day meals in schools from February 28. In an official notification, the government informed that the scheme would take place in schools again following strict COVID-19 protocols.
