IIM Kozhikode has recently announced revisions to its admission policy, marking an important shift in the weightage given to various academic factors, particularly Class 12 scores, while maintaining the 35% weightage for CAT scores.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode is gearing up for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024, scheduled for November 24, 2024, as part of its admission process for the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) for the academic session 2025-26. The institute has recently announced revisions to its admission policy, marking an important shift in the weightage given to various academic factors, particularly Class 12 scores, while maintaining the 35% weightage for CAT scores.

This change reflects IIM Kozhikode’s commitment to refining its selection process, ensuring it attracts a diverse and talented pool of candidates for its prestigious PGP program.

In the revised admission criteria for the 2025-26 batch, Class 12 scores will now carry a weightage of 20%, up from 15% last year. On the other hand, the weightage for Class 10 scores has been reduced from 25% to 15%. This change emphasizes the importance of a candidate’s performance in higher secondary education, which is seen as a better reflection of their readiness for graduate-level studies.

The updated admission policy outlines the following weightages:

- CAT 2024 scores: 35% (no change from last year)

CAT 2024: A Critical Component for Admission

Despite the revisions in the weightage distribution for academic scores, CAT 2024 scores will continue to hold significant importance in the selection process. The CAT score will account for 35% of the total evaluation, the same as the previous year. IIM Kozhikode’s decision to retain this weightage underscores the institute’s commitment to selecting candidates who demonstrate strong analytical and reasoning abilities—key attributes for success in management education.

The CAT 2024 exam is scheduled for November 24, and candidates can expect the shortlisting process for the next stage to be announced by the last week of January 2025. The final merit list for admissions will be released around the second week of May 2025.

Q:   Is only CAT score a factor for admission in IIMs?

A:
No, CAT (Common Admission Test) score is not the only factor considered for admission to the Indian Institutes of Management (Iims). While the CAT score is an important factor, it is just one of the several components that are evaluated in the selection process. The selection process for Iims typically involves several stages, which may include: CAT score: The first stage of the selection process is the CAT exam. Candidates who meet the cutoff score set by the IIMS are shortlisted for the next stage. Written Ability Test: The What is a written test that evaluates a candidate's ability to communicate effectively in written form. This stage tests a candidate's writing skills and analytical ability. Group Discussion GD In the GD stage, candidates are divided into groups and given a topic to discuss. This stage tests a candidate's ability to work in a team and communicate effectively. Personal Interview PI- The PI stage evaluates a candidate's overall personality, communication skills, work experience, academic background, and other factors. Academic Record: The academic record of a candidate is also an important factor considered in the selection process. This includes the candidate's academic performance in school and college, as well as any professional certifications and degrees. Overall, while CAT score is an important factor, it is just one of the components considered in the selection process for IIMs. Candidates are evaluated on multiple parameters, and the final selection is based on a combination of factors such as CAT score, academic record, work experience, What, GD and PI performance.

- Graduation Degree with at least 60% aggregate marks (or equivalent CGPA)

- Applicants without a graduation degree but with a CA, CMA (ICWA), or CS qualification must have at least 50% aggregate marks.

The CAT 2024 score plays a crucial role in Stage 1 of the admission process. Below are the category-wise minimum CAT score and academic cutoffs for Class 10 and Class 12:

- Academic diversity

- Work experience

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).

The WAT and PI will take place across several cities, including Kozhikode, Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. In the WAT, candidates will be given an essay topic to write on, assessing their ability to articulate ideas clearly. During the PI, candidates will be evaluated based on various factors including:

- Academic performance

- Personality traits

- General awareness

- Communication skills

- Work experience

Final Shortlisting and Weightage Breakdown

- WAT score: 20%

- Resume score: 10%

IIM Kozhikode’s revised admission policy for 2025-26 reflects the institute’s focus on selecting a well-rounded and diverse cohort for its MBA program. While the weightage for CAT 2024 remains unchanged, the increased importance of Class 12 scores and the reduction in Class 10 weightage ensure a more comprehensive assessment of candidates' academic capabilities. Aspiring candidates are encouraged to prepare thoroughly for both the CAT exam and the subsequent WAT and PI stages to secure a spot in one of India’s top management institutes.
