This diverse curriculum aims to equip participants with a holistic understanding of urban management challenges and solutions, empowering them to drive impactful change in their respective domains and contribute effectively to the nation's urban development agenda, the institute informed.

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore welcomed a new batch for the Customized Management Development Programme for ANVESHAN (Centre of Excellence). Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), this programme marks a significant milestone in the journey of professional development and strategic leadership in the areas of urban waste management. This diverse curriculum aims to equip participants with a holistic understanding of urban management challenges and solutions, empowering them to drive impactful change in their respective domains and contribute effectively to the nation's urban development agenda, the institute informed.

The batch comprises officials from Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Leh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. These include Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, Mission Directors, Municipal Commissioners, Chief Officers, Chief Health Officers, Joint Secretary, etc.  

Professor Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, inaugurated the batch, which comprised 37 distinguished senior officers. Professor Subin Sudhir, Chair – Executive Education, and Professor Shruti Tewari, Programme Coordinator, were also present on this occasion.

In his inaugural address, Professor Rai recalled the Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath event and reflected on the monumental scale of the Swachh Bharat initiative, emphasizing its profound impact on India's landscape. With awe-inspiring statistics, he highlighted the collective efforts of over 8 crore individuals who diligently cleaned 9 lakh sites across the nation, echoing the power of Janbhagidari.

Welcoming the new batch, Professor Subin Sudhir said that over the course of four days, participants will delve into a comprehensive array of topics crucial for effective urban development management. Professor Shruti Tewari mentioned that the programme, led by esteemed faculty and industry experts, offers a curriculum that is meticulously designed to equip senior officers with the requisite skills and knowledge. This will enable them to tackle contemporary challenges in urban governance and development.

Financial Management, facilitated by Professor Saumya Ranjan Dash of IIM Indore, will provide insights into budgeting, resource allocation, and financial planning essential for sustainable urban projects. Bettina Duran, Advisor at GIZ, will enlighten participants on Biogas production, offering innovative solutions for waste management and renewable energy generation.

Legacy Dumpsite Remediation will be addressed by Himanshu Chaturvedi, Director at KPMG, offering strategies to mitigate environmental hazards and revitalize contaminated sites. Mr. Nishant Kumar, Operations Manager at Ever Enviro, will shed light on Waste to Energy and RDF Management from a private sector perspective, exploring opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

Project Management, Resource Planning & Allocation, and Behavioral Change & Public Participation, all facilitated by Professor Harshal Lowalekar and Professor Shruti Tewari of IIM Indore, will impart crucial skills in project execution, resource optimization, and stakeholder engagement, vital for successful urban initiatives.

Harshika Singh, IAS, Commissioner of Indore Municipal Corporation, will discuss Emerging Priorities for Implementation under SBM 2.0, guiding participants in aligning strategies with national urban development goals.

Additionally, Sasanka Velidandla, Director at WASHi, will explore the Changing Face of Indian Public Toilets, while Mr Virendra Mane, Head of City Operations, Indore, will share insights about MRF Automated. Kartik Agarwal, Deputy Director at the Department of Economic Affairs, will shed light on Public-Private Partnerships, fostering collaboration for sustainable urban development. Representatives from Municipal Corporation, Ambikapur will talk about improving efficiencies of collection and transportation decentralized.
