The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur recently concluded the fourth edition of North India’s most prominent scholars’ conclave, the Management Education and Research Colloquium (MERC), with the announcement of the top three research papers. MERC, pioneered by IIM Kashipur, serves as a vibrant platform for scholars nationwide to exchange groundbreaking research, ideas, and collaborations in the field of management education and research.

Outstanding Papers and Recognition
Best Paper Award: Shreya Srivastava, affiliated with Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) Allahabad, received the top honor for her paper titled "Artificial intelligence: From Activation to Assimilation: Schema Equilibration in Consumer-AI Interaction via Voice comprising Social and Emotional Cues" in the Marketing category.
Second Best Paper: Mohd Mujahid Khan from IIT Kanpur was recognized for his paper "From Abundance to Scarcity: An Experimental Study of Financially Constrained Newsvendor" in the Operations and Decision Sciences category.
Third Best Paper: Virender Kumar of Delhi Technological University received accolades for his paper titled "Domestic Monetary Policy and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Deposits to India: An Empirical Analysis" in the Economics category.
Honoring Excellence
The awardees were felicitated by MERC Convenor Professor Somnath Chakrabarti, Dean (Academics), who presented them with certificates and monetary rewards of INR 25,000, INR 20,000, and INR 15,000, respectively. Professor Chakrabarti commended the scholars for their outstanding contributions to ethical research and emphasized the importance of their work.
Enriching Sessions and Collaborative Discussions
Throughout the conclave, participants engaged in both online and offline sessions, workshops, and panel discussions led by esteemed experts from academia and industry. These sessions covered diverse topics such as research methodology, interdisciplinary research, climate change, and sustainability, providing valuable insights and fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
Dr Jai Advani, Managing Director at PwC Company, highlighted the evolving relationship between research and industry, emphasizing the need for collaboration to address contemporary challenges. Dr Anu B Gupta, a renowned economist, shared invaluable advice on navigating the realms of research and industry, emphasizing the importance of risk, research, and remuneration.
Dr Sabyasachi Patra, Chairperson of the Doctoral Programme and MERC Convenor, expressed satisfaction with the significant increase in paper submissions, indicating a 400% rise compared to previous years. He underscored MERC’s role as a catalyst for intellectual exchange, innovation, and the birth of new ideas.
The success of MERC 2024 underscores the importance of collaborative research and innovation in driving progress in the field of management education and research. As academia and industry continue to converge, platforms like MERC play a pivotal role in shaping the future of management research and practice.
