IIM Mumbai conferred degrees during its first convocation ceremony. Among the 1,013 students, there were 32 PhD candidates. From batches 2020-2022 and 2021-2023 there were 482 and 531 students, respectively.
IIM Mumbai Convocation 2024: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai conducted its first convocation. The management institute conferred degrees to 1,013 students, including two batches 2020-2022 and 2021-23.
These students have become the first ones to get their degree certificate under the IIM Mumbai stamp, which was erstwhile National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE). At the same time, these two batches are also the last ones to get Post Graduate (PG) Diploma which NITIE offered until now. Batches passing out of IIM Mumbai hereafter will get IIM Mumbai’s MBA degree.

Congratulating the students, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was the chief guest for the event, said, “The institute has travelled a long distance in its journey to become IIM. I am glad to know that it has seen a 20 per cent jump in the number of recruiters coming for placements indicating changing market perception post the new status. But I will encourage students of IIM Mumbai to become entrepreneurs instead and give jobs.”
Stating that the IIM ecosystem contributes to India’s wealth management, Pradhan urged the newest and 21st IIM of India to work toward building unicorns.
Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, National Stock Exchange (NSE), was guest of honour for the event. Among others present for the first convocation of IIM Mumbai were Chairman, Board of Governors (BOG) of IIM Mumbai, Shashi Kiran Shetty and Director of IIM Mumbai Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, along with all faculty members, students and parents.
