IIM Mumbai is set to introduce new Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs, including an MBA in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, aimed at cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and fostering innovation among the next generation of business leaders in India.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai has unveiled its plans to expand its academic offerings starting from the 2025–26 academic year. The institute is set to introduce new Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs, including an MBA in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, aimed at cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and fostering innovation among the next generation of business leaders in India.
Introduction of Flexible MBA Programs
In addition to its specialized MBA in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, IIM Mumbai is committed to making management education more accessible to professionals by launching flexible learning formats. Beginning in 2025, the institute will offer both a fully online MBA program and a weekend MBA program, which will be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays.
IIM Mumbai Director Professor Manoj Kumar Tiwari explained that these programs are designed to cater to professionals who wish to balance their academic ambitions with work commitments. "These programs will allow students to pursue a full MBA degree without compromising their professional responsibilities," he said. Unlike traditional executive MBA programs, the new offerings will provide the same comprehensive curriculum and rigorous training as the full-time MBA program.
Online MBA Program: Details and Fee Structure
The online MBA program will offer the convenience of remote learning for most of the course duration. However, Professor Tiwari clarified that students would need to appear physically for at least half of the final examination papers every semester. Students can attend lectures, submit assignments, and complete course-related work online, but they must be present for about 50% of exams in person. The program will cost approximately INR 15 lakh.
Incubator for Startups and Innovation
As part of its mission to foster an entrepreneurial culture, IIM Mumbai is also launching an in-house incubator designed to help startups and innovative ideas take root. The incubator will be available to both students and external innovators, providing them with the resources and support needed to bring their entrepreneurial visions to life.
The incubator is being established with an investment of over INR 50 lakh and will feature 10 rooms to support early-stage startups. Professor Tiwari revealed that the incubator’s operations will begin in early 2025. "We have already selected 10 students who are working on innovative entrepreneurial ideas and have allocated Rs. 10,000 each to help them," he said. Once fully operational, the incubator will provide initial funding of Rs. 1 to 2 lakh to selected entrepreneurs to help grow their innovations.
