The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis at IIM Shillong has inaugurated a five-day Management Development Program (MDP) aimed at mid-level government officers from Arunachal Pradesh. The program, running from December 16 to December 20, 2024, will provide 30 officers, each with over 10 years of service, with the tools and knowledge necessary to improve governance and public service delivery in the region.

The MDP began with a warm welcome address from Dr. Sanjeev Ningombam, Centre Head of the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis. Dr. Ningombam detailed the program’s carefully crafted curriculum, emphasizing its objectives to foster innovation, enhance administrative efficiency, and instill best practices in governance. He highlighted the program's focus on empowering officers with skills that can directly translate into improved public service outcomes.

Director’s Keynote on Leadership and Governance

Professor D P Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, delivered the inaugural address, underscoring the crucial role of administrative officers in shaping the future of Arunachal Pradesh. He stressed the importance of adopting principles such as integrity, initiative, and a people-centric approach in public administration. Professor Goyal encouraged the participants to remain adaptable to the changing dynamics of governance, emphasizing the significance of continuous learning in enhancing both individual leadership capabilities and overall organizational performance.

Program Highlights and Key Topics

The five-day program is designed to cover several essential topics related to modern governance. Key focus areas include:

  • Leadership and Team Building: Enhancing leadership qualities and fostering collaborative work environments.
  • Project Management: Equipping officers with skills to efficiently manage government projects.
  • Technology and Digital Transformation: Addressing the integration of digital tools in governance, including the use of e-governance platforms, GIS-based planning, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Financial Management: Building expertise in managing government resources and budgeting for effective service delivery.

A special emphasis will be placed on addressing critical issues related to cybersecurity and data privacy in government systems.
