Q: The IIT Mandi School of Management is known for its focus on applied interdisciplinary research. Please elaborate on the kinds of research initiatives that students at SOM can expect to be a part of.

A: School of management of IIT Mandi provides a wide range of interdisciplinary research initiatives to its students that blend management principles with high technology and societal challenges. Some esteemed research areas include data and business decision-making processes across various industries, namely healthcare, banking and finance, sales and marketing, logistics, etc. Additionally, the course also provides research in the core management areas including OB, HR, Ethics, Marketing, Finance etc. 

Q: What is MBA and PhD eligibility criteria at IIT Mandi SOM? Are there any specific academic backgrounds or work experience requirements? What are the key steps involved for selecting prospective students?

A: While applying for the admission in MBA and PhD, the eligibility criteria involves two categories. In the first category, the school admits candidates who have obtained Bachelors/Masters degree from Centrally-funded technical institutions or NIRF 2024 top 100 Institutions (Overall Category or Engineering Category). While in the second category, the applicants that have appeared in CAT 2024 can apply based on their CAT score. The applicants are required to have a minimum CGPA in their qualifying degree and must have studies Mathematics at +2 level. However, the final selection is based on the personal interview of the shortlisted candidates. Q: IIT Mandi is known for its emphasis on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. How are DS & AI integrated into the new management courses at IIT Mandi's SoM?

A: At IIT Mandi, the School of Management offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates core and elective courses focused on analytics, AI, and business management. The interdisciplinary approach is a seamless fusion of AI and Analytics with key business functions like operations, marketing, finance, HR, OB, Law, Ethics, etc., providing students with real-life learning experience through case studies, role plays, simulations, and live business projects. Additionally, students are well-versed in no-code Analytics and AI tools along with the knowledge of Python, and R-like computer languages. Moreover, strong industry collaborations provide opportunities for internships and live projects, enabling students to arrive at the most appropriate decision. We have conducted various regular workshops, industry-expert talks, and certification programs, ensuring regular updates to the students with the latest AI and Analytics trends in the Industry.

A: As for now, we can make no changes in our admission criteria. The same process has been implemented for AI and data science in management education.

A: My experience is becoming a great help in designing the curriculum most relevant and contemporary by appropriately positioning and blending general management courses and concepts with data science and AI.  The growth and popularity of this unique MBA course on Data Science and AI in the industries is evident with the increased participation of industry leaders in various institute activities including conclaves, industry talk series, placement process, etc. The courses are taught through innovative case studies, hands-on live projects, business simulations, role-plays, games and other managerial activities.
