Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is revamping both the PGCET and KCET. The Karnataka PGCET syllabus and exam pattern will be revised by an expert committee specifically focusing on syllabi for Engineering courses. Additionally, the KCET exam will likely transition from offline to online mode in the upcoming session.
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is planning to change the syllabus and question paper pattern for the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET). Sources within the KEA indicate changes in PGCET syllabus to align with the evolving landscape of technical education. Additionally, new courses, such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, and Blockchain Technology, require the syllabi to be revamped accordingly.
Last time the Karnataka PGCET syllabus was revised in 2009, making the upcoming change long overdue. The current syllabus for Karnataka PGCET is based on traditional engineering courses that do not cover recent technological advancements. As a result, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has proposed a comprehensive revision of the syllabus to align it with contemporary industry demands.
KEA will constitute an expert committee to ensure the changes reflect the current trends and requirements of technical education. While the syllabus for MBA and MCA courses is likely to remain the same. KEA will release Karnataka PGCET 2024 notification mentioning the changes in upcoming days.

In contrast, KCET is expected to transition from traditional pen-and-paper mode to an online format starting the 2025 session.
Engineering Admission through Karnataka PGCET
As of the previous session, KEA conducted Karnataka PGCET with MBA, MCA and 10 technical PG course papers. MBA and MCA had a streamlined structure, irrespective of the discipline. Technical papers varied based on the course under each branch. Technical papers conducted for admission through PGCET were as follows:
- Civil Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Computer Science Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Textile Engineering
- Polymer Science
- Architecture
- Bio-Technology
- Electrical Science
- Mechanical Science
Out of all the papers mentioned above, Electrical Science and Mechanical Science courses have a distinctive question paper pattern. KEA will likely include more test papers to cater the new-age courses.
