Home Minister Amit Shah recently launched MBBS course books in Hindi, FAIMA Doctors Association opines this move will harm national interest in the long run.

MBBS in Hindi will harm national interest, says FAIMA

Under the New Education Policy, the Central government has been pushing the introduction of local languages and Hindi in medical and technical courses to break the language barriers for local students. The medical fraternity is not pleased with this move and now the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has released a statement that says that such a move will harm national interest in the long run.

The official release of FAIMA says, "The medical sciences curriculum is vast and keeps on changing with the never-ending research going on at multiple levels the world over. The question is not of Hindi vs English neither is it one of cultural colonial hangover as some are portraying it to be."

The main point is producing world-class doctors to serve our people while simultaneously ensuring that the service sector is strengthened as doctors from India are serving in different countries contributing to the prestige of our country, added the statement.

As per the Association, Hindi translation of medical textbooks is fraught with many problems. The main is the standardisation of the medical lexicon into Hindi and producing a set of doctors who will always face some issues while mingling with their peers abroad.

The reckless move to push towards Hindi as a medium in every sphere will harm the national interest, in the long run, said the Association.
